Message from the Manse
This time last year we were preparing to give evidence against the building of very large pylons just yards from Logie Kirk.
The process is about to continue soon, with the reporters bringing their report to the Scottish Government. It seems crazy to me that there can be such wholesale destruction of beauty, regardless of the feelings of those who will have to exist so closely to industrial scarring. It seems crazy to me that people’s fears are set aside for dubious economic gain, and a route for greener energy could go elsewhere in a more environmentally friendly way. Around our Kirk where worship has been conducted for over 800 years, a real peace may be shattered. I hope we can now start speaking again to the politicians so that they can hear our voice before they make their decisions.
There is, however, a greater point. Wherever it occurs, injustice has to be resisted by people like us. Wherever people are hurting, through no fault of their own, we need to be bringing care. If we let people walk over us and say nothing, others who are weaker will suffer worse fates.
The power lines are a big issue for the people who live around us. We would be wrong if we did not listen to them and “Scottish and Southern,” and seek reconciliation and justice. We also need to remember that every day someone is in need, who needs us to speak for them.
As we regard the world around us, a world full of need and controversy, let us listen for God’s word and speak with God’s compassion.
